Should you crave cookies or other types of snacks that are not ideally healthy, instead of buying them, make them yourself.  If they don’t exist in your home, you won’t be eating them.  And, if you really want them, it you’ll be forced to make them yourself, meaning making more of an effort instead of just opening a cupboard door.  Moreover, homemade baked goods are obviously healthier for you than any store-bought ones.  Keep in mind at all times that prepackaged, store-bought baked goods contain numerous ingredients that are harmful to your health, and the health of your children.  The bottom line is that you know exactly what goes into your home baked goods, unlike the ingredients found in packaged goods, that often can’t even be pronounced by the average consumer.  You control the sugar, so you can add as little or as much of it, and know full well that you haven’t included high fructose corn syrup instead, which is a common practice among food manufacturers.  We all know how dangerous high fructose corn syrup really is, so stay away from it as much as possible.

Having said that, high for this corn syrup is found in almost all foods that call for sugar, including the very popular soda pop drinks and condiments that are a part of almost every meal in the Western world.  This should raise red flags everywhere, meaning you should stay away from them, and forget about the light versions and the sugar-free ones as well.  If you really want soda, then make it at home, as there are machines available which are very affordable, and which will eventually pay themselves off, possibly within weeks, depending on how much you normally consume.  Additionally, you will save yourself from all the harmful ingredients they include, especially the HFCS used in North America, which is prohibited in Europe.  That’s right, your Coca-Cola is completely different from the one that sold across the Atlantic.  What’s more is that you can make very interesting soda pop drinks with your own healthier ingredients.

As for condiments, make those at home as well.  While they may not last as long as those found on grocers shelves, you know what you’re putting into your body.  In addition to that, they will be much less fattening than the prepackaged goods sold in stores.  Plus, you can get very creative and they don’t take forever to make.  In fact, there are numerous recipes around, and with the help of all the small electrical appliances that most of us already have in our kitchens, they can be whipped up in moments and preserved in the fridge for several days.

Make Your Own Condiments

You can make relish, ketchup, and mayonnaise, all within 15 minutes or so, so why trust food manufacturers who find all types of loopholes to serve you whatever they prefer, as long as they make more money!  Oh, that’s right, we turn to packaged foods for convenience, but unfortunately, this convenience is making us sick, literally, and is also directly responsible for our chronic illnesses and debilitating diseases that so much of the population are suffering from.  It’s time to turn back the clock and do things like our mothers and our grandmothers used to if we want to live long and be healthy all along the way.
